The President of the Indian Sufi Foundation, Kashish Warsi, has welcomed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, urging the Muslim community to read the bill thoroughly before forming opinions.
The Lok Sabha passed the bill after an intense 12-hour debate, with the opposition INDIA bloc strongly opposing it, while the BJP and its allies defended it as a step towards greater transparency and efficiency in Waqf board management.
Warsi stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech in the Lok Sabha had clarified that the bill was not against the interests of Muslims but rather a step toward benefiting the underprivileged sections of the community.
“I congratulate the government on passing this bill in Parliament. Amit Shah’s speech has made it clear that there is no harm to Muslims from the Waqf Bill. I appeal to Muslims across the country to read the bill themselves rather than relying on fear-mongering by certain political parties. This bill is going to be a gift for poor Muslims,” Warsi remarked.
Expressing confidence that the bill would pass in the Rajya Sabha as well, Warsi remained optimistic about its acceptance. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda are set to address the Upper House regarding the bill around 1 PM on Thursday.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aims to amend the Waqf Act of 1995 to enhance the administration of waqf properties in India. It seeks to address inefficiencies in the existing system, improve the registration process, and integrate technology for better record-keeping.
As the bill moves to the Rajya Sabha, the debate is expected to continue, with strong opinions from both supporters and critics.
